Jesus Our Creator
Many people think of Jesus as a created being. Some religions even have Him as an angel or the brother of the devil. Fortunately for us, Jesus is not a created being, but the Creator.
Genesis 1:1-8 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.
3 Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day” and the darkness “night.”
And evening passed and morning came, marking the first day.
6 Then God said, “Let there be a space between the waters, to separate the waters of the heavens from the waters of the earth.” 7 And that is what happened. God made this space to separate the waters of the earth from the waters of the heavens. 8 God called the space “sky.”
And evening passed and morning came, marking the second day.
It continues with all six days recorded in Genesis 1 where God created all things through speaking them into existence.
John the Apostle helps us understand the role of Jesus at the creation in John 1.
John 1:1-5 In the beginning the Word already existed.
The Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
2 He existed in the beginning with God.
3 God created everything through him,
and nothing was created except through him.
4 The Word gave life to everything that was created,[a]
and his life brought light to everyone.
5 The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it.[b]
Why is it important that we understand Jesus as the Creator? If He were a created being, He would lack the authority and power necessary to deal with the problems we face. Since Jesus is the creator, every problem, every situation we face, He can create a way through it for us. Though He created the laws of nature, He is not bound to them since he is the creator.
Today when you look at your challenges or problems, remember the Jesus who dwells in you (1 John 4:4) is greater than anything this world can toss your way. Jesus is the creator and the answer to all things we face.
Prayer: Jesus, today as I look to you as the creator of the universe, I am humbled by the fact that one so powerful can know and love me. You care about the details of my life. As I look to you as the creator, I recognize you are greater than every challenge, problem, test and situation that produces anxiety and frustration in me. You can provide or create the answer for every situation. I recognize that you are Lord over all the earth you created. Thank you for your help in everything I face.
